We reject the “lesser evil” narrative and champion a bold, impact-driven approach.

Our endorsements provide clarity and confidence, ensuring our community votes with purpose to demand accountability.

.

CMPAC’s MuslimsVote.ca campaign is encouraging Canadian Muslims to vote with principle. Our endorsements aren’t about party loyalty – they’re about where candidates stand on justice for Gaza and the issues that matter most to our communities.

In some cases, we’ve met directly with candidates to secure their commitments. In others, we’ve reviewed their public record or relied on local community feedback. Whether it’s an endorsement, a recommendation, or a pending decision – every call we make is about helping you vote on principle, vote for Gaza, and vote for Justice.

MuslimsVote Candidate Selection Strategy Explained

We would like to share Canadian Muslim Public Affairs Council (CMPAC)’s comprehensive Candidate Selection Strategy as part of the MuslimsVote.ca campaign.

The ultimate goal of this campaign is to use the upcoming election to leverage favourable policy change on Palestine and address its domestic impacts on civil liberties and freedoms in Canada.

Campaign Objectives

  • Elect the largest possible number of publicly committed pro-Palestine and pro-justice candidates to Parliament—individuals who will advocate for this principled cause in Ottawa.
  • Support principled candidates who have consistently championed the cause and demonstrated a commitment to justice and to Palestine.
  • Send a strong political message about the Muslim community’s uncompromising stance on policy issues that matter to us—Palestine being central among them.

How these Objectives work:

To achieve these objectives, CMPAC’s selection and campaign strategy takes into consideration the following:

.

Primary focus is on top competing runners:
The campaign compares between the most viable candidates —those with a chance of winning and relatively more favourable positions whether as candidates or as parties.

Negotiated Commitments in Swing Ridings:
In approximately 50 ridings where the Muslim community has a clear swing impact, CMPAC engages in negotiations to secure public commitments from candidates on key policy demands for Palestine

CMPAC does not dictate a specific format or wording for these commitments. While signing the VotePalestine pledge is the preferred recommendation, alternatives such as public statements or appearances are also acceptable.

The format and language are part of the negotiation process, and decisions are made with input from active local community leaders.

Party Positions Comparison in Non-Swing Ridings:
In ridings where the Muslim vote is unlikely to change the outcome, endorsements are based on comparing the party positions of the top two candidates— in relation to CMPAC’s policy demands.

.

Exclusion of Known Islamophobes and Extreme Zionists:
Under no circumstances does the campaign support candidates with a known history of Islamophobia or extreme Zionist positions.

Support for Consistent Allies:
The campaign also endorses candidates who have a strong proven track record—through both history and clear positions—on Palestine and justice.

Impact of the Strategy to Date:

Public Commitments Secured: Campaign negotiations have led to many Liberal candidates signing the VotePalestine pledge or making alternative public commitments. A pro-Palestine bloc is forming.

Palestine as an Election Issue: The campaign has succeeded in making Palestine a significant election issue in many key ridings—placing it on the radar of major political parties.

.

Community as a Political Bloc: CMPAC has delivered a clear message: our community is organized and unified, negotiating with consistent, principled demands.

Empowered Grassroots Movement: MuslimsVote.ca has helped build a grassroots political movement, empowering individual Muslims to play a meaningful role in shaping Canada’s policies and politics for a more just future.
