On behalf of the Islamic History Month Canada (IHMC) Board, we extend our heartfelt appreciation for your ongoing dedication to nurturing strong, resilient, and inclusive Muslim communities across Canada.

This October 2025, as part of Islamic History Month Canada, we are proud to share this year’s national theme: “Pioneering Muslim Communities in Canada ~ Cultivating Spaces for Comfort, Growth, and Learning Over Time.”

This theme pays tribute to the early Muslim institutions and community leaders who built the foundations of faith, service, and education that continue to support generations today. From mosques and Islamic schools to grassroots cultural organizations, these pioneering spaces have become sanctuaries for belonging, learning, and spiritual growth.

.

To bring this theme to life, we are inviting mosques, Islamic centres, and cultural institutions across the country to host a National Open House Weekend on October 17–18, 2025.

This coordinated weekend of community engagement will provide an opportunity to:

  • Celebrate and share your unique institutional history
  • Educate neighbours, youth, and the broader public about your impact
  • Foster relationships through dialogue, art, storytelling, and hospitality

Suggested activities include:

  • Displays featuring archival photos, founding members, educational posters, and historic milestones
  • Guided tours of your space
  • Oral history sessions or panels with community elders
  • Family-friendly crafts, henna, refreshments, and cultural showcases

We encourage you to register your open house event with the IHMC so we can help promote it nationally through our digital platforms. We also invite you to welcome local leaders,
educators, elected officials, and media to be part of your celebration.

Let us come together to honour our legacy, amplify our voices, and continue cultivating spaces where Muslim communities—and all Canadians—can learn, grow, and thrive.

For questions, promotional materials, or planning support, please don’t hesitate to contact our team at Islamic History Month Canada (IHMC)
