Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un

Indeed, we belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return.

It is with profound sadness that we share with you the news that our dear Alia left us this morning peacefully in her sleep.

.

She was our mother, sister, mentor, and leader.

First and foremost, she was a superb human being.

For the Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW), she was a bold and fearless beacon who guided us through some tumultuous times.

She loved people and wanted to do whatever she could to make their lives easier.

She was generous and hospitable and embraced all of us as her family.

She was modest and humble to a fault and never liked attention and praise for her extraordinary achievements.

.

Her legacy lives on in her family and all of us at CCMW.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Alia for her wisdom and guidance cannot be expressed in a few words.

We are sad at this immense loss and know that she deserved a peaceful passing.

We pray for her tranquil journey to Jannat-ul-Firdaus.

May God’s blessings always be with her.

.

Our deepest condolences go out to Alia’s family and friends.

We pray that you find strength and comfort during this difficult time.

The story of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) begins in 1982 when a group of dynamic and devoted Muslim women from across the country congregated in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Led by the late founder of CCMW, Dr. Lila Fahlman, these women sought to mobilize their passion for social justice and faith in order to enrich their communities and work towards the common good of Canadian society.

This inaugural meeting led to the establishment of CCMW, a not-for-profit organization that works to provide equity, equality and empowerment for all Canadian Muslim women. For the past 30 years, its proud and accomplished roster of members have achieved and continue to achieve great milestones for Muslim women and Canada’s multicultural landscape. As a highly diverse organization, CCMW is firmly committed to the overarching vision of improving the status of Muslim women to remain true to their Islamic heritage and Canadian identity.
