The Canadian-Muslim Vote Launches First Muslim Vote Weekend
Written by The Canadian Muslim VoteOAKVILLE, ON – The Canadian-Muslim Vote (TCMV), a non-partisan non-profit, launched its first “Muslim Vote Weekend” of the 2022 Ontario election on Friday, May 20, 2022.
16 mosques across Ontario had volunteers with fliers and tables to encourage Muslim voters to go to the advance polls, and sermons were delivered on the importance of voting.
The weekend of May 20-22, 2022 is the first of two Muslim Vote Weekends of advance poll voting where TCMV is mobilizing the estimated half million Ontario Muslim voters to vote early.
Based on the latest StatCanada and 338Canada.com modeling and projections TCMV estimates Muslim voters can change the outcome in 55 ridings.
“Muslim voters are concentrated in many ridings that are projected as close races. Advance poll voting is key to a high Muslim turnout which can swing the election either way,” said TCMV
Director Umair Ashraf. “Voting is important to Ontario Muslims because ‘You are loudest when you vote’, and by voting early The Canadian-Muslim Vote is making sure Muslims will be heard
through the campaign.”
This weekend’s mosques are across Toronto, Oakville, Mississauga, Brampton, Aurora, Milton, and Cambridge. TCMV volunteers postered over 100 community shops through the campaign.
