National Zakat Foundation Canada Appoints Shari'ah Advisory Board

Since 2013, National Zakat Foundation has been at the forefront of Zakat education, creating and distributing materials that are clear, practical and accessible.

Now, we are pleased to introduce our Shari’ah Advisory Board, a group of trusted scholars committed to answering your most complex Zakat questions with the knowledge that is rooted in authentic texts of Islam.

As the world around us changes, many Muslims are perplexed by the endless, contradictory information on the intricacies of paying Zakat while others in more vulnerable situations are unable to confirm their eligibility to receive Zakat due to varying opinions.

NZF Canada’s Shari’ah Advisory Board has been established to provide Muslims with critically researched answers by highly qualified and reputable scholars, providing clarity and confidence in their knowledge and understanding of Zakat.

Meet the Scholars

Shaykh Hacene Chebbani graduated with a Bachelors in Shari’ah from the Islamic University of Madinah in 1993. While there he took the opportunity to study Aqīdah, Fiqh and Hadīth with some of the notable scholars of the blessed city. He went on to complete his Masters in Islamic Finance from the UK in 2012. Shaykh Hacene has served as Shari’ah consultant and headteacher in a number of organizations for many years. He is currently an Imam in Calgary where he gives regular classes, counselling, and leads prayers. He is a senior scholar in NZF Canada’s Shari’ah Advisory Board.

Imam Nabil Khan was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. He began Islamic studies at Al-Ihsan Institute at the age of 15, where he became a Graduate of the Dars Nizami under the supervision of Mufti Aasim Rashid and other esteemed instructors. In the 5th year, Imam Nabil Khan also studied in Darul Uloom Bury in the UK. He currently serves as an Imam in several local mosques leading prayers, teaching youth, and conducting programs of all varieties including Arabic and Islamic studies. He is a Shari’ah Advisor and a member of NZF Canada’s Shari’ah Advisory Board.

Mufti Taha Masood began his Islamic studies at a young age, completing hifz of the Quran at 16. He pursued his studies at the Al-Ihsan Educational Foundation in Surrey, BC, completing his Bachelors in Islamic Sciences with Honours in 2011. He then travelled to the UK where he completed his Master’s in Islamic Sciences (Ālimiyya Program) with distinctive honours in 2013. Mufti Taha Masood then returned to Vancouver and completed his post-graduate degree (Mufti Program), specializing in Islamic Jurisprudence, and graduated with honors in March 2013. He currently serves as the head administrator and instructor at the Al-Ihsan Centre, where he has had the honour of teaching several senior-level subjects, including Tafsir of the Qur’ān, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawūd, Sunan al-Nasai, and Sunan Ibn Mājah. He is also a Shari’ah Advisor and a member of NZF Canada’s Shari’ah Advisory Board.
