Calgary, Alberta, 2024/01/29 - The Muslim Council of Calgary (“MCC”) is gravely concerned about the wellbeing of Mr. Mansour Shouman, a Calgarian, a former board member of the MCC and a Palestinian activist, currently in Gaza amidst escalating violence. Recent bombardments by the Israel Occupation Forces have intensified, and multiple eyewitnesses were present as Mr. Shouman was abducted by the Israeli Occupation Forces.

Mr. Shouman, a Canadian citizen, was visiting family in Gaza just before the Israeli Occupation Forces began their genocidal campaign on Gaza. Although he had the ability to leave, he chose to stay to document and share the experiences of those affected by the ongoing conflict. His reports have been vital in bringing international attention to the plight of civilians caught in this unsatisfiable war.

“The MCC and the local Muslim community are extremely worried about the safety of our brother Mansour Shouman and the well-being of countless innocent civilians suffering the ongoing genocide in Gaza by the Israeli Occupation Forces.” MCC Chairperson.

.

The Muslim Council of Calgary urgently calls upon the Canadian Government to utilize all diplomatic channels and resources to ascertain the whereabouts and safety of Mr. Shouman and his safe return to his family. We also call on the Canadian Government to provide necessary aid and protection to the civilians of Gaza.

The MCC stands in solidarity with all those in Gaza who are facing unimaginable suffering and loss. We urge the international community to come together to advocate for peace and provide immediate humanitarian assistance to those in need.

We request the media and the public to respect the privacy of Mr. Shouman’s family during this distressing time and to support our call for his safe return and the protection of innocent lives in Gaza.
