Misk Islamic Society of Canada is excited to share with you the Tick-Tock: Beat the Clock National Youth Competition (NYC) which aims to provide Canadian students of all abilities an opportunity to stay engaged and productive - something we feel is important now more than ever!

Muslim Link interviewed the team behind the Tick-Tock contest about how the competition came out of the increased collaboration between Canadian Muslim organizations in the midst of the COVID 19 pandemic.
What is Tick-Tock and how did each of these organizations come together to initiate this project?
The Tick-Tock: Beat the Clock National Youth Competition is the first in a series of virtual youth initiatives developed by Misk Islamic Society of Canada and delivered in partnership with other established organizations.
Misk Islamic Society of Canada approached ISNA Canada, SMILE Canada, Muslim Athletic Association (MAA), EnviroMuslims, and Quran Journey to partner with them to deliver this competition.
The objective of the Tick-Tock: Beat the Clock National Youth Competition is to engage with Canadian youth of all abilities in grades 3 to 12. With students being at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers wanted to come up with a unique and fun way to keep them engaged and productive during this time.
The competition is split into three levels: Juniors (grades 3-5), Youngsters (Grades 6-8) and Teens (grades 9-12). Each level features categories in different areas such as art, creative writing, reading, and visual creativity.
Upon submission, a panel of judges will review and score all entries, ultimately naming the top three submissions in each category. These top three individuals will receive a prize.
What is each organization contributing to the project?
Each organization is committing financial support to purchase prizes, recruiting judges, and supporting marketing and outreach initiatives.
What are some important Contest Deadlines we should be aware of?
The registration deadline is Saturday, April 11, 2020 11:59 PM EDT. The deadline to make contest submissions is Tuesday, April 14, 2020 11:59 PM EDT.
How are you working to ensure that this contest reaches the Canada's diverse Muslim communities?
The organizing team has reached out to more than 92 organizations and individuals across Canada, including national and youth organizations, community groups, and mosques to advertise for the competition and expand its reach and impact via their social media channels, websites, and newsletters.
SMILE Canada supports kids and youth with disabilities in the community. Being part of the National Youth Competition, they assisted in ensuring the content is accessible to all kids regardless of their abilities.
We are also excited to share that Deaf Muslims Canada joined our list of promotional partners and translated the competition video to American Sign Language (ASL).
