Islamic Relief Canada Collecting Fresh Produce, Baby Items, Hygiene Kits for Fraser Valley Flood Victims in BC

Catastrophic flooding and storms in British Columbia have left thousands of people displaced, unhoused and trapped without access to food and safety supplies.

Due to the widespread mudslides and broken infrastructure, Vancouver is left disconnected from the rest of British Columbia, and the province has declared a state of emergency.

Thousands of evacuees remain in more than 20 evacuation centres across the province. All four highways that connect the Lower Mainland with the rest of the province have been closed by landslides and flooding that released a month's worth of rain over two days.

Islamic Relief is on the ground now providing emergency relief to communities affected by the devastating flooding and mudslides in British Columbia.

Islamic Relief Canada's Fraser Valley team is procuring essential items for families affected by the recent flooding in the area.

Staff and volunteers have already collected milk, fruits and vegetables, baby formula and diapers, laundry detergent, blankets, hygiene kits, sanitary pads and more following a needs assessment conducted on November 17.

The items are being dropped to Locality, an Abbotsford hub that will distribute the items to residents of Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Hope that have been affected by the floods, including Indigenous communities.

Islamic Relief volunteers are also helping out at Locality until 8 pm tonight to sort items and load trucks with items.

In addition, Islamic Relief Canada has partnered with the Abbotsford Islamic Centre to provide shelter to flood victims who may need it. A flood appeal has also been launched online.
