This event is part of the Righting Relations Ottawa Circle, a movement of women facilitators who are committed to social change, equity and justice in Ottawa. This workshop is a follow-up event of the movement that was launched in November 2017. Events and gatherings will continue to take place throughout this year, bringing us together and creating more opportunities to learn and share.
This workshop attempts to uncover the assumptions that underlie the phenomenon of Islamophobia. Using media clips and current events, it shows how widespread Islamophobia really is, and suggests facilitation tools for bystander intervention in such cases. Facilitators Ubah Hersi and Carissa Davis will walk us through the various ways in which we can be self-aware as we navigate diverse spaces, and give us tips and tools that could come in handy when facilitating workshops on Islamophobia.
