The Ottawa Black Educators’ Network and Parents for Diversity, with the support of the Ottawa – Carleton District School Board and the Ottawa Catholic School Board invite you to a conference on addressing anti-Black racism in schools. Date: Saturday 23 November 2019 Time: 8:00am to 1:00pmLocation: Confederation Education Centre: 1645 Woodroffe Ave, Nepean, ON K2G 1W2This half-day conference is for educators and parents to learn about specific issues affecting Black students and families in the education system. Workshops for parents will explore ways to navigate the school system and effectively advocate for their children. In a second workshop, parents will examine approaches to support the mental well-being of their children who experience anti-Black racism.Workshops for educators will explore how racism in the education system adversely affects the rights of Black students and undermines their potential to succeed. Through an interactive workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore issues around unconscious bias, discrimination and privilege.
