MSA at MRU,

Who are we?

So who are we? We are the Muslim Students’ Affiliation at Mount Royal University. We are a SAMRU Ratified club here to make your experience as a Muslim Student on Campus be the BEST it can be!

Finding a Place to Fit

We are a community of diverse people trying to maintain our identity. We have a right to practice our faith according to our teachings, no matter where we are. As such, we run many events such as Halaqahs (Islamic Lectures), workshops, and conferences!

We also do social events where we can have fun in a Halal environment (i.e. separate events, Halal food, and Halal content), such as game nights, sports events, movie nights, outdoor events, and much more! We even host Iftaars on campus during Ramadan!

Advocating Against Adversity

We work with various departments in MRU and SAMRU, advocating for the best Muslim Student experience in all aspects of campus life. Some of our work includes but is not limited to:

Tests causing Troubles?

You find yourself in exam season and suddenly in a time conflict! But do not worry; whether the time conflicts with Jumaa (Friday prayer) or with your fasting in Ramadan, there is a way to defer/change your exam time

Accommodation for Religious Observance During the Term

"These requests must be submitted within two weeks of the conflict and normally within the first two weeks of the term."

Accommodation for Religious Observance During Final Exams

"It is the student’s responsibility to review the Final exam schedule to determine a conflict between a final exam and their religious observance. This will be completed within four (4) weeks of the release of the exam schedule. Submissions after that date will not be considered." (Click here for the MRU Webpage)

Hungry for Halal?

The MSA is actively working on getting more Halal options on campus and in university & SAMRU-run events.

Although limited, some Halal options are available in the Wyckham House food court.  Mr. Souvlaki and Wyked Korean Grill include Halal items within their menu. However, they also serve pork, so please be sure to ask before each order to make sure no cross-contact has occurred!

Need a place to pray?

There are two Wudu stations located next to the Prayer (Meditation) Room W201! The Prayer Room, AKA the Meditation Room, is in Room W201. With both a Brother's and a Sister's side, complete with prayer mats, clothing, and books, it is a great place to stop by whether to pray your Fardh (obligatory) prayers or if you want to pray for success before a test!

The times for the congregations are posted on our Socials and inside the Prayer Room! Make sure to join the WhatsApp group to stay up to date!

Jumaa Prayers are held in Room U111 at 1:30 p.m!

Unity Starts with U!
