IslamicFamily Support Worker (Special Focus on Gaza Evacuees)
IslamicFamily is hiring a Support Worker – Special Focus on Gaza Evacuees in Edmonton, Alberta.
Full Time: 40hrs/w
Start date: Nov 15, 2025
Location: IslamicFamily Hüb (2-786 10545 108 St) & CPCA (16267 141 St) Edmonton
Salary: $48,000 to $52,700 (one year contract role, with possibility of renewal)

About the Position
As a Support Worker you will be working with clients with complex needs and circumstances – helping people when they need it most.
As a Support Worker you will need to demonstrate the following skills:
- Interactions with clients in a manner that is respectful, patient and sympathetic.
- Cultural sensitivity to client’s racial, ethnic and religious needs.
- Firm ability to assess client needs and make knowledgeable referrals to external organizations.
- Compassion and professional ethical practice.
- Strong client engagement and relationship building.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with other professionals.
- Client-centred practice, anti-oppressive and anti-racist approaches to working with clients.
- Knowledge of immigration trends, crisis intervention, child abuse reporting, domestic violence and mandatory reporting.
Responsibilities
1. Community Outreach (70%)
- Support requests for system navigation, financial assistance, housing, legal support, counselling, etc.
- Supporting the Canadian Palestinian Cultural Association (CPCA) with programming for seniors, students, and others.
- Providing settlement and emotional support to Gaza evacuees, helping them connect with local services, navigate systems, and access culturally appropriate supports
- Developing trust and community relations with members and leaders in the Muslim community.
- Working from a culturally sensitive lens to complete in-take when required, for example; Family Violence intakes, risk assessments, safety plans with clients; and when required with help-line callers.
- Connecting clients to Edmonton resources (for example Shelters, Alberta Works, Legal Aid, Regional Housing, educational supports);
- Educating clients in areas such as healthy relationships, parenting skills and other areas related to domestic abuse;
- Supporting clients in completing documents, applications and forms for clients
- Connecting back with your supervisor at the office and other team members as necessary.
2. Reporting + Records Management (15%)
- Accurate case noting on client’s activities and support you have provided in a time;
- Updating the database as client’s information and situations progress or change.
3. Other Activities (15%)
- Attending meetings such as case consultation, staff meetings, and inter agency and partnership meetings.
- Supporting Manager and colleagues in program development, evaluation, reporting in regard to the programs that IslamicFamily is involved in and receives grants.
- To represent IslamicFamily in community liaison activities
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Social Work or related Human Services field
- Competency in Arabic is essential, as the majority of the clients require language supports
- At least one (1) year of working experience in the social service sector
- Experience in family violence, settlement, and community settings is an asset
- Familiarity or experience with newcomer, refugee, and Muslim populations
- Direct experience in an intake or casework role will be considered a tremendous asset
- Experience in direct client contact through volunteer/work with a social service agency is an asset
- Training in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention and domestic violence is an asset
- Flexibility to occasionally work day and evening hours as needed
- Must maintain the legal right to work in Canada
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
