Multifaith Housing Initiative (MHI) is a grassroots, federally registered charity in Ottawa dedicated to providing and promoting safe, affordable housing. MHI was started roughly two decades ago by local religious organizations that banded together to address the looming affordable housing crisis in Ottawa.
Today, MHI's voting membership consists of more than 70 faith-based organizations, including Baha'i, Christian, Hindu, Islamic, Jewish, and Unitarian organizations. MHI's dedicated volunteer base consists of individuals from both religious and civil society, as well as the tenants at MHI's affordable housing sites.
