The initiative was launched in 2007, to recognize Canadian Muslim women who have made a difference in the lives of other people in Canada and/ or abroad. The awards are now part of CCMW’s regular activities. At least one of the honouress will be 30 years of age or younger.
Nominations are now open for the 2017 Leading Women/Leading Girls, Building Communities Recognition Awards! This award acknowledges and celebrates women and girls who demonstrate exceptional leadership in working to improve the lives of others in their communities. Like other communities of diverse faiths, Muslim Canadian have made great contributions to Canadian society. However, focus tends to fall on the association of Muslims with terrorists rather than Muslims as positive community builders and contributors. To turnaround this narrative, a group of Muslim Canadian professionals in Toronto organized the Muslim Awards for Excellence (MAX) Gala on March 24th at the Ritz Carleton to spotlight the achievements of Muslims in Canada.
