The Silk Road Institute is offering a $3,000 Creative Arts Bursary to students enrolled in a creative arts program in Québec to assist in meeting her/his academic or living expenses. The deadline to apply is April 15th, 2017.
We are delighted to announce the launching of the Silk Road Institute Creative Arts Bursary. This annual award, in the amount of $3,000 CAD, is to be granted to a meritorious student at the college or university level enrolled in a creative arts program in Québec to assist in meeting her/his academic or living expenses.
The aim of this bursary is to foster interest in the creative arts among young Muslims in Québec and Canada and to encourage the widest possible range of cultural expression in the multi-faceted Muslim community.
An often under-represented segment of the population, young Muslims artists pursuing an academic career in the arts, or contributing to Canadian arts and culture, lack the tools to realize their full artistic potential. The Silk Road Institute Creative Arts Bursary is one step towards creating opportunities for young Muslim artists to create and flourish, and to strengthen the diversity of the arts in Canada.
2017-2018 Application Deadline: April 15th, 2017.
In order to be considered for the award you must: Self-identify as a Muslim (this bursary is strictly non-sectarian). Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Be pursuing studies in Montréal or the province of Québec. Be between the ages of 18 and 30. Be enrolled in a creative arts program at a university or college (i.e. creative writing, poetry, painting, sculpture, photography, filmmaking, music, theatre, etc.) or a structured educational or training setting (i.e. a conservatory or fine arts academy). You may also be engaged in an experimental project outside the strictly academic milieu. Note: Silk Road Institute Board or Executive members and their direct relations are ineligible to apply
A three-member committee will adjudicate all applications. The committee will review the applications based on the following assessment criteria: The applicant’s prior and/or expected artistic contributions to the arts in Canada and her/his role in fostering diversity in the arts and cross-cultural dialogue. The potential of the award to further the applicant’s artistic goals and promote the arts in Canada. The applicant’s record of academic excellence and community service.
At the end of the term, academic year or scheduled project duration, the bursary recipient will produce a detailed report, including a sample of the work produced, which would be kept in the Silk Road Institute archives, displayed in an appropriate setting, or performed.
