This Black History Month, Muslim Link wants to celebrate the presence and contributions of Black Muslims in Canada.
We are looking for written contributions by Black Muslims living in Canada who want to share their stories with us so that we can showcase the diversity of Black Muslim life the country.
Contributions can explore a variety of topics including:
Your story: What does being Muslim mean to you? What does being Black mean to you? What would you want Muslim Link's readers to know about your culture, your ethnicity, you or your family's country of origin? What do you love most about your heritage?
Your reflections: What does Black History Month mean to you? What is it like to be Black and Muslim in the particular part of Canada you live in? How do you cope having to navigate both Islamophobia and anti-Black racism in Canada? How do you think we can address the reality of anti-Blackness in Canada and within Canada's Muslim communities? How do you think we can address the problem of Islamophobia in Canada and within Canada's Black communities? What lessons can we learn about how to live together with mutual respect across diverse racial and religious lines from your culture, ethnicity, or country of origin? What does belonging mean to you? What does "being welcome" mean to you?
Requirements for Contributors
1. You are currently living in Canada (You don't have to be a citizen)
2. You can provide a photo (high resolution) to accompany your piece
3. Your contribution is a maximum of 2000 words
Deadline to submit: February 21, 2017, but we strongly encouraged submissions before that date
